HW for Wednesday

Your HW for Wednesday is to prepare for a debate/discussion on the topic "How Revolutionary was the 'Revolution of 1800?'"

You should be familiar with:

  • Jefferson's vision for America (laid out in his First Inaugural Address)
  • How well the era 1801-1814 met this vision
  • How different the era 1801-1814 was from Federalist America
Be sure you look over the Jeffersonian Era Unit Plan, posted at the top of the page.

Due 2/11

Your homework for Wednesday is to perform a close reading of Thomas Jefferson's First Inaugural Address.

The steps for performing a Close Reading are laid out here.

There should be evidence of having read at least two times, looking for patterns in how the speech is constructed and what makes it effective. The context in which the speech was delivered (a president representing a new political party) should be addressed in your close reading.

Finally, your read should address the question, "What was Thomas Jefferson's vision for America?"
